Availability

The dentistry team consults on Monday and Thursday. Our surgery or procedure days are usually on Tuesday and Wednesday. We happily endeavour to accommodate clients who are unable to come at these times.

Client requirements

After being referred from a general veterinary practice, clients should bring with them their pet’s medical history and any previous dental radiographs taken at the general practice.

What to Expect During Your Initial Appointment

During the dentistry appointment, your pet will receive a thorough awake oral exam and physical examination. In addition, we will review your pet’s medical history, previous medical records, and current treatment.  Based on our evaluations, further diagnostic tests that may include anesthetized oral exam, dental radiographs, and other advanced diagnostic imaging such as CT scan, may be recommended. We will also discuss our treatment planning and options with you during this consultation. The dental procedure will be arranged and done on a separate procedure day.

Anesthesia and Pain Management in Dentistry

Unlike human dentistry, our patients need to be anesthetized for dental radiographs and all dentistry procedures. At Queensland Veterinary Specialists, all patients are provided with intensive anesthetic monitoring by a certified anaesthetic veterinary specialist with state-of the art equipment.

Pain management in dental procedures is crucial. We routinely perform appropriate local nerve blocks prior to any dental procedures and carefully tailor the pain management protocols individually.
