    • Surgery

      Dr Richard Eaton-Wells is the principle of Queensland Veterinary Specialists. He graduated in 1971 from the University of Queensland winning both surgery prizes at the time. In 1975 he practiced at the University of Bristol with Christine Gibbs in the Radiology Department. During 1979-1980 he was a resident in Small Animal Surgery at Ohio State University.

      In 1982 Richard established West Chermside Veterinary Clinic which was the first private referral facility in Queensland. This clinic would later be renamed Queensland Veterinary Specialists. Richard has a special interest in long bone fractures and the return of athletic dogs to performance after surgery.

      He has published numerous articles and contributed to continuing education. Richard has been a mentor to eight trainees in Small Animal Surgery and ten interns in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. He recently shared the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists award for publication of the year. Richard takes referrals in soft tissue and orthapaedic surgery.

      David graduated from the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland with first class honours in 2000.

      He worked in equine and small animal practice in Brisbane before returning to the University of Queensland as an intern in 2002. He continued to work at the University as an Associate Lecturer and Registrar in Small Animal Surgery before moving to Queensland Veterinary Specialists in 2009 to undertake a residency in Small Animal Surgery.

      David completed his residency in 2011 and continues to work at Queensland Veterinary Specialists as a consultant. Although he enjoys all aspects of surgery, he has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery – laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and arthroscopy.

      Jason graduated from Queensland University in 1988 and spent three years in mixed and small animal practice before undertaking a residency in small animal surgery at the University of Sydney. Jason has a Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies degree awarded for investigations into the pathophysiology of canine GDV. He has worked as a faculty surgeon at the University of Sydney and Washington State University in the USA. He is a fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and a registered specialist in small animal surgery.

      With over fifteen years of experience in managing difficult and complex cases, his interests lie in all aspects of soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurosurgery.

    • Internal Medicine

      Alison graduated from the University of Queensland, School of Veterinary Science in 1994 with first class honours and was awarded a University medal. After working in a small animal veterinary hospital in Adelaide for three years she returned to Brisbane to work at Manly Rd Veterinary Hospital for a year. She then moved to the USA to complete a one year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Louisiana State University.

      In 2000 Alison obtained a two year residency in small animal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and followed this up with a further year as a lecturer. Although Alison was asked to continue in her position as lecturer she moved back home to Brisbane in 2003.

      Alison is a registered specialist in small animal (cat and dog) medicine in Queensland. Alison is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Alison has written articles on D-dimers and mycobacterial infection in a feline renal transplant recipient, and has presented at the ACVIM forum (poster).

      Alison joined Queensland Veterinary Specialists in January 2004 as head of the medicine service. She is interested in all aspects of medicine including sub specialities such as imaging, critical care, neurology, cardiology and oncology. She especially enjoys gastroenterology (including endoscopy), nephrology and hematology.

      Inar graduated with honours from the University of Queensland in 2002 where she was awarded the University Medal.

      She worked in small animal practice on the sunshine coast before starting at Queensland Veterinary Specialists in July 2003 as a rotating intern in emergency medicine, surgery and critical care.

      Inar completed a three year residency in small animal medicine in 2007.

      Inar achieved Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2011 and is a registered specialist in small animal medicine.

      Inar enjoys all aspects of canine and feline medicine but has a particular interest in ultrasonography, immunology, oncology and neurology.

      Karen graduated with honours from the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in 1998.

      She then travelled to the UK where she worked as a mixed animal vet for several years before returning to Australia and undertaking a residency in Small Animal Medicine.

      Karen completed her residency in 2009 and now works at Queensland Veterinary Specialists as a consultant. Her major interests are neurology, endocrinology and diagnostic imaging.

      Sibylle studied veterinary medicine in Switzerland at the University of Berne. After graduating, she worked for Novartis, but decided to return to clinical work. She completed an internship at a specialist clinic in Switzerland and worked for one year in private practice.

      From 2007 to 2010 she was trained in Internal Medicine at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachussettes. In 2010 she became American board certified in internal medicine. Sibylle then worked at Anderson Sturgess a referral hospital in the United Kingdom before joining the team at QVS.

      Sibylle has clinical interests in hepatic diseases, blood disorders as well as nephrology and critical care.

      Phil graduated from the University of Queensland, School of Veterinary Science in 1984 with first class honours and worked in rural practice for three years. He completed a residency in Theriogenology at the University of Florida in 1990 and in 1995 he completed a PhD at Cornell University in Equine reproduction studying the interactions between spermatozoa and the oviduct epithelium.

      As a PhD minor he studied Entrepreneurship at the Johnson Graduate school of Business. He holds specialist (or equivalent) status in Australia, New Zealand and the United States after fulfilling the requirements and examinations for Diplomate of the American college of Theriogenology in 1989 and Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Canine Reproduction) in 1992. He has taught reproduction to veterinary students in Australia and has published more than 50 scientific articles, book chapters, reviews and case reports. His greatest feat in reproduction was to make a small contribution to the birth of his children Hilary and Edward. He is currently a Specialist in Reproduction at Queensland Veterinary Specialists.

    • Dermatology

      Mike graduated from Queensland University in 1984 and has worked in a number of different private practice and industry positions. In 1995 he started a residency at the Animal Skin and Allergy Clinic in Melbourne, with additional periods of study at the University of California, Davis and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. He is principle and director of a specialist dermatology referral practice and adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Queensland.

      Mike is a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Veterinary Dermatology) and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, the only dual boarded veterinary dermatologist in Australia. He has published in Australia and overseas and has presented in Australia, South East Asia and North America

      Fiona graduated with honours form the University of Melbourne in 2005 and spent a year in Emergency & Referral practice in Melbourne.

      In late 2006, she undertook a rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Queensland Veterinary Specialists and Pet Emergency and following completion of the internship, continued her role as Assistant Clinical Director of Pet Emergency.

      Fiona accepted a Residency position with Dr Mike Shipstone at Dermatology for Animals in March 2008.

      Fiona is planning to undertake Fellowship and Diplomate examinations in Veterinary Dermatology.
